What is difference between Henna and Mehndi?
Henna is used as a temporary dye which wears
off on its own. It is used greatly for hair coloring
and temporary body art.. It is mainly known as
Mehndi or Mehandi in India and Pakistan. In North
Africa and the Middle East it is typically called
Henna. The dye is extracted from the dried leaf
and petioles of the plant. The natural dye is
traditionally found in India, Pakistan, Middle
East, and Northern Africa. It can also be found
in expatriate communities from these countries.

2)
Where can you get mehndi application?
Mehndi tattoos can be done on any part of the
body, but the color results are best attained
if it is done on exposed areas like hands and
feet. Besides, the color darkens on the areas
that is free of moisture, and has a good blood
circulation, due to muscle movements.
The ideal mehndi results are seen on the palms
of the hand and on the feet. Besides mehndi can
be done on any part of the body, only results
will be different. mehndi shows best on skin with
lighter tones as the colour will give a better
contrast after it stains.

3)
What is mehndi hair conditioning?
Mehndi can also be applied to the hair or scalp
as a natural hair-conditioner, during summer for
a cooling effect and for hair color. Mehndi is
a very good natural hair/scalp conditioner for
oily hair. It is especially good for dandruff,
and for people with sensitive scalp, who cannot
use chemical hair colours, as it also colour the
grey with no side effects.
Mehndi hair conditioning can last for at
least 4 weeks, but the color may fade as many
times as we shampoo the hair, so it is hard to
say when each person needs to do the re-touch
for the henna –coloring.
Hair Mehndi should not be done on clients with
damaged/coarse hair. Mehndi has a drying tendency
so if the hair is chemically damaged due to excessive
processing, than mehndi application would only
make it worst. If the client is only trying mehndi
for a single application and would like to switch
over to chemical coloring, than the hair will
not be receptive to hair color. If the client
does not approve of the color, mehndi color cannot
be bleached.

4)
How long do mehndi tattoos last?
It depends on what part of the body it has been
done and how long the mehndi paste is left on the
area.
If it is done on the hand, it may last for not
more than 5-7days, depending on how often the
hands are washed. If it is on the feet, it may
last for nearly 10 days. If it is on any other
part of the body and the color is not dark enough,
the tattoo will be visible for no more than a
week.
Mehndi tattoos should not be done on swimmers
as the chlorine fades the Mehndi faster than usual.
People with a dark complexion should only get
mehndi on the palms, as any other part of the body
may not show a good contrast.

What color mehndi do you do?
There is only 1 color for mehndi. Natural mehndi, gives a deep red to dark burgundy stain
if it is used for tattoos, depending on each individual’s
body temperature.
Hair mehndi gives orange colour to grey hair for

every 2 weeks, the colour builds up to dark red/

Why don’t you use other colors of mehndi
like black?
Natural mehndi only comes in one color,
which is orange.
"Black Mehndi" is made with synthetic
black hair dye containing para-phenylendiamine.
Para-phenylendiamine based black hair dye should
never be put straight on your skin, plain, or
mixed with other material. Synthetic
Black Hair Dye is illegal to put on skin, because
that is not an approved use. Even when this
dye is applied to hair, people must wear gloves,
and they try to not get it on the scalp!
PPD, Para-phenylendiamine can seriously injure
people. Para-phenylenediamine is a strong
sensitizer, transdermal toxin and potential carcinogen.
Many people get itching, blistering and hair loss
from using black hair dye on their hair.

hair color/ conditioner? How do we identify that
mehndi tattoo will not give good results?

If the client is only trying henna for a single application and would like to switch to chemical coloring, than the hair will not be receptiveto hair color. If the client does not approve of the color, henna color cannot be bleached. Mehndi done on grey color will only give an orange tint. For medium brown/black hair the henna treatment gives a red tint.
