They say that only with the first step can a long journey begin. Last year, an idea began simply enough: help out with the tragedy in South East Asia. Friends, strangers and Ziba employees all helped in their own ways. This year, Ziba Beauty has agreed to affiliate itself with the American India Foundation (AIF). Ziba Beauty started Project Hope with the sole aim of giving back and helping people in a meaningful way. It is precisely these goals that lead to Ziba Beauty making the AIF the sole beneficiary of the funds raised by Project Hope.
The American India
Foundation (AIF) is the largest India centric charity in the USA. Its mission is to accelerate social and economic change in India. By mobilizing people and resources across the United States, AIF has raised over $32 million since its inception in 2001.
AIF has offices in New York and San Francisco (Silicon Valley) in the US, and New Delhi and Bangalore in India. There are 30 trustees in the U.S. that contribute $100,000 per year. Former President Bill Clinton serves as Honorary Chair.
AIF awards grants to education, livelihood, and
public health projects in India with an emphasis on elementary education, women’s empowerment, and HIV/AIDS, respectively.
AIF also administers four programs:
(1) The Service Corps, which develops young American leaders by placing them with Indian non-profit organizations based on skills and need.
(2) The Digital Equalizer, which bridges the “digital divide” by providing computers, Internet, and training to under-resourced schools.
(3) League of Artisans, which creates sustained livelihoods for underprivileged artisans – particularly tribal, rural
and women artisans – and thereby improve their economic and living conditions.
(4) Donor Education, which trains donors to become strategic philanthropists.
AIF holds four fundraisers in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Chicago. Sumita Batra, the CEO of Ziba Beauty, is on the governing body of AIF Southern California, along with a group of successful philanthropists.
