After 35+ years shaping over 10 million brows, our artists at Ziba Beauty get this question every single day: “Should I do threading or waxing?” The honest answer is it depends on you. Here’s our complete breakdown so you can walk into your next appointment with confidence.

What Is Eyebrow Threading?

Threading is an ancient hair-removal technique that uses a thin, doubled-up cotton thread twisted into a loop. The artist rolls the thread across the skin, catching individual hairs at the follicle and removing them in a clean, precise line. It’s the technique Ziba Beauty was founded on in 1988 and the one we’ve refined into an art form.

✦ Ziba Pro TipThreading allows your artist to remove one hair at a time or an entire row in one swift motion, giving you an extraordinary level of precision that waxing simply cannot match.

What Is Eyebrow Waxing?

Waxing involves applying warm (or cool) wax to the skin and removing a strip of hair at once. It’s fast, effective, and excellent for covering larger areas like above and below the brow line quickly.

Threading: Pros and Cons

  • Pros: Extremely precise; no heat or chemicals; gentle on sensitive or acne-prone skin; less chance of lifting or thinning skin; great for defined arch shapes
  • Cons: Can feel mildly uncomfortable at first; takes slightly longer than waxing for full brows

Waxing: Pros and Cons

  • Pros: Faster for large areas; smooth finish; results last 3–5 weeks; many clients find it very tolerable
  • Cons: Heat can aggravate rosacea, eczema, or reactive skin; wax removes a thin layer of skin along with hair; less precise for fine shaping work; not recommended for clients on retinol or Accutane

Which Is Better for Sensitive Skin?

Threading wins here, hands down. Because it uses only a cotton thread, no adhesives, no heat, no chemicals. It’s the safest choice for clients with sensitive skin, rosacea, eczema, or those using active skincare ingredients like tretinoin or vitamin C serums that thin the skin’s surface layer.

“Threading is the method I always recommend for anyone on skincare actives. Waxing can lift the skin along with the hair and cause real damage for those clients.” — Ziba Master Artist

Which Lasts Longer?

Both methods remove hair from the follicle, so results are comparable: typically 3–4 weeks for threading, and up to 5 weeks for waxing, since the wax slightly disrupts the follicle’s regrowth cycle. The difference is minimal for most clients.

Our Recommendation

If precision, sensitivity, and the cleanest possible arch shape are your priorities choose threading. If you’re looking for speed and you don’t use actives, waxing is a great option too. At Ziba, our certified artists are trained in both and will help you choose the right technique at your appointment.
