Before It Was a Category.
A Legacy Crafted with Intention.
Founded in 1988. Shaping more than brows.
THE BRAND THAT BUILT THE CATEGORY
In 1988, before eyebrow threading was recognized in the United States, there was Ziba.
Founded by Kundan “Kelly” Sabarwal, Ziba Beauty became the first professional threading brand in America - introducing a centuries-old technique to a new market and establishing the standards that would define it.
Threading existed as tradition.
Ziba made it a professional category.
From a single family-run studio in Southern California, Ziba grew into a nationally recognized authority - shaping how brows
would be defined, trained, and commercialized across the country.
Ziba is the first and oldest professional eyebrow threading brand in the United States.
A MATRIARCH. A STANDARD.
At the center of Ziba’s founding was Kelly - disciplined, precise, and unwavering in her standards.
Her philosophy was simple: precision, consistency, and integrity - applied to every brow, every client, every artist trained.
Those principles shaped every artist trained, every client served, and every studio opened.
Ziba was never built to chase trends.
It was built to set them.
BUILDING THE MODERN THREADING INDUSTRY
As threading expanded across America, Ziba did more than grow. We professionalized it.
Registered The Art of Threading ® trademark
Authored the first formal professional threading curriculum
Standardized training protocols across studios
Certified hundreds of artists through the Ziba Academy
Trained, employed 1000s of beauty professionals
Served 80K+ brows per month at peak across 16 studios
Many followed.
Ziba laid the foundation.
Even today, the commercial threading model seen across malls and cities traces back to standards we helped define.
We set the benchmark.
And continue to uphold it.
EMPOWERMENT THROUGH ARTISTRY
Ziba has never been only a beauty business.
We have always leveraged our position to create opportunity.
Through initiatives such as Empowerment Through Artistry, we have:
- Trained survivors of human trafficking in Cambodia
- Worked with domestic violence survivors in the United States
- Provided skill-building pathways for new immigrants
- Created economic independence through craft-based training
THE ART OF MEHNDI® - ELEVATING STREET ART TO CULTURAL ARTISTRY
Ziba reintroduced mehndi to the American beauty landscape - not as novelty, but as cultural artistry.
Under the creative direction of CEO and co-founder Sumita Batra - published author of The Art of Mehndi® and internationally recognized artist - mehndi was positioned as both heritage and high art.
While threading became commercialized, mehndi remained deeply artistic.
Through celebrity collaborations, editorial work, and education, Ziba helped elevate both practices into global beauty categories - one scalable, one sacred.
A FAMILY-LED INDUSTRY AUTHORITY
Today, Ziba remains family-owned and founder-led.
Sumita Batra, co-founder and CEO, expanded the brand’s national presence and cultural footprint - growing Ziba to 16 studios at its peak and shaping it into a recognized authority within the industry.
Alongside her family and leadership team, she continues to evolve the brand with intention.
We are constantly refining standards.
Investing in education.
Raising the bar.
Leadership at Ziba has never been about scale alone.
It has always been about stewardship.
DOBARA - THE RENEWAL
After decades of growth, expansion, and industry impact, Ziba entered a new chapter.
Dobara - meaning “again” - represents renewal with intention.
Not starting over.
Starting wiser.
Dobara is how Ziba translates legacy into the future - through education, community programming, creative collaboration, and elevated studio experiences.
Through Dobara, Ziba brings its full experience — education, artistry, community, and impact - into a reimagined platform that supports artists, empowers entrepreneurs, and elevates cultural craft within modern beauty.
It is both legacy and evolution.
Crafted With Intention Since 1988
For over three decades, Ziba Beauty has helped shape two
global beauty categories. We remain committed to:
Professional standards, Cultural respect, Education-driven growth, Community impact, Intentional artistry
We built the category.
Now we are building what comes next.
